On our way up to Yorkshire we took the opportunity to call at the Unicorn Co-operative in Chorlton. We’d only heard of it recently and after looking on line I was really keen to go. Then last night when I looked for directions on line I discovered it was very close to the Barbakan Deli so that was another must.

I have had rye bread from them through Northern Harvest and seen them on food programmes before so it was great to actually visit. The shop is lovely. There is a covered verandah cafe which was bustling even on a damp October Thursday. Inside there is the bakery, deli and grocery store. The staff were really friendly and helpful and we will definitely call again before Christmas. We bought bread, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, Parma ham and chorizo.

Although the address is totally different the Unicorn is literally across the road.

It is brilliant with fruit and vegetables and every kind of flour, nuts, cereals, dried fruits, pulses etc etc!

We were able to stock up on loads of things from my shopping list so again another trip before Christmas will be a must. Their whole ethos is so sensible just wish we had somewhere similar nearby. We bought 4 different varieties of squash, chillies, chick peas, oats, rye, flour, hazelnuts, polenta and more!
