As another item not to buy from the supermarket I decided to have a try making our own crackers for cheese etc. They turned out to be really tasty so will definitely make them again – possibly try sprinkling some Parmesan on too next time.


200g plain flour
1 tsp baking powder
50g cold chopped butter
1 tsp flaky sea salt
Chilli flakes/fennel seeds


1. Blitz flour, baking powder and butter in processor.

2. Add 4 tbsp of water and mix until the dough comes together. It should be soft but not sticky.

3. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface as thinly as possible approximately 50 x 25 cm.

4. Brush with water and prick with a fork.

5. Sprinkle all over with salt flakes and other seasoning of choice. I used chilli flakes on one half and fennel seeds on the other. Then gently roll with rolling pin to secure them before cutting into approx 25 squares.

6. Bake at 140 C for 15 minutes then cool on a wire rack.
