Where to buy #notfromthesupermarket near Macclesfield

HAPPY TO UPDATE WITH OTHER PEOPLE’S FAVOURITES – A NUMBER OF THESE HAVE BEEN RECOMMENDED BY OTHER PEOPLE TOO

The towns that are coping best in the recession are those with more independent shops. Then the money stays in the community and doesn’t disappear. They need shoppers to use them though. Visitors don’t return to clone towns.

On Treacle Market Sundays the town is buzzing, every cafe is full and we wish it was like that every weekend – but it isn’t.

Treacle market

Treacle market

People have busy lives and I accept not everyone can get all their shopping from independents but if everyone shifted some of their shopping we could make our town like Todmorden or Hebden Bridge.

Let us know if you have any favourite local suppliers or producers and we’ll add them to this page!

We have a number of good cafes including those encouraging community use like The Snow Goose on Sunderland Street and Amuse on Chestergate.

Which is your favourite – let us know and we’ll give them a mention.

I like to meet friends in Coffee Traders on Chestergate – free coffee refills and lovely staff who always helped bring high chairs etc when my grandson was a baby.

Where do you like to get our bread – from an independent I hope!

PRESTBURY FARM SHOP

Charlie and Debs have built up this shop so well – and still adding products – it’s really worth a visit and of course free parking in Prestbury car parks too. We’ve had meat, poultry, veg, preserves etc. they also have fresh fish on Tuesdays and Charlie on the BBQ most days if you want your breakfast or quick bite for lunch.
